This is a very nice early JTL (Jérome Thibouville-Lamy) violin from around 1900 – it has a JTL brand visible through the treble f-hole. It’s a well-made instrument, very light in the hand, and the spruce used for the table is a very nice flame. The condition is generally excellent – some wear to the varnish on the table, a repaired 'A' string hole in the peg box was professionally carried out by Mike Ward at Vintage Strings in Dundee.
I bought this violin in 2010 from Vintage strings in Dundee and I'm now looking to upgrade by commissioning a violin to be made. I'm not looking to make a profit out of anyone and can provide the receipt showing I paid £600. This will also allow you to take the violin back to Vintage Strings in the future and trade it in for the full amount towards a more expensive violin.
This particular violin has great response and a lovely zingy woody voice – all the strings are well balanced and give the same feeling of effortless musicality. It’s smooth, easy to play, clear, and without any nasality.
Length of back 35.5 cm
