A handsome and very well made genuine German reproduction (not factory produced) of a Stradivarius violin. The violin has been assessed by Bristol Violin Shop as being an early 1900s model and the price is what they informally suggested it might be worth. In recent years, this violin has been played by a post Grade 8 amateur player in various university orchestras and chamber groups who much preferred it to the English made violin that he had been playing on for much of his career. It produces a mature sound that can be both rich and mellow tonally. The violin is in good condition. The neck/fingerboard are smooth and the purfling shows good detail. The ribs do not have any warping. The colour is attractive and in general the violin has a well-aged and antique feel. It comes with an olive gold E string, a basic case, but no bow. The tailpiece is adequate, but more advanced players may wish to change it along with the chin rest. The pegs may need some attention to aid fine tuning. There is a small crack between the back and the bottom of the rib. Bristol Violin Shop suggested a basic repair for £30-40 and a more expensive one for around £150-200 so it will need some work in order to get it back to perfect condition - it is a beautiful instrument and well worth it. Viewings welcome in St. Austell, Cornwall
