This is a lovely violin. Violin by Hermann Dölling jr., ca. 1920 This violin is a quality instrument from the ateliers of Hermann Dölling jr. (1862 - 1923) in Markneukirchen, that was built approx. 1920. The unmistakable, nonstandard character of the violin is determined by the high arching of the back and the comparably small scroll on a large pegbox. Nevertheless, the spruce of the top is very regular and well-chosen, as is the finely flamed maple of the two piece back. The purfling was inlaid carefully and close to the edges and demonstrates the excellent skills of the violin makers at Dölling´s workshops, that achieved good reputation among international experts and musicians. The attractive appearance of the violin is completed by a red-brown colored, glossy spirit-oil varnish that was richly applied. Ready to play it unfolds its convincing sound that is bright, clear, brilliant and rich in overtones.
